Damo’s Glade 2008 / Sancho Panza Inspired Deep house and Twisted Beats Mix JULY 2008
This is a mix that I made after spending a wicked weekend (mostly) in the Sancho Panza tent. Seeing so many people loving the deep house and twisted beats at Glade inspired me to do it.
It starts off at quite a leisurely pace and gets meatier later on.

Magik Bullet celebrated their 4th Birthday on the 10th May 2008. It is known as one of Plymouth’s best parties and encompasses music from across the board of house, techno, breaks, wonky house, bleepy house and whatever rocks! Magik Bullet has played host to some of the biggest names in underground dance music and has a fanatical following that extends around the South West, UK.
Ollie 303 from http://www.southwestunderground.net was on hand to record all of the sets from the 4th birthday and now we present 30Hz set. 10 minutes after 30Hz arrived at the club, a thief stole his record bag, almost scuppering his chance of playing. Quick thinking staff and promotion team scanned CCTV and identified the thief, the thief wandered back into the club later on in the night and he was made to reveal the location of the bag. 30Hz got his records back and this is the result…….

Magik Bullet is one of Plymouth’s best loved club nights. It has evolved into a multi genre mash up of music and has one of the most open minded clientele around.
We return on February 9th 2008 with Breakspoll Best Breakthrough DJ Award Contender – Sick Rick.

After talking his way into a job co-producing Tayo’s Dread At The Controls show on Kiss 100, Rick met (and impressed) Dom B of breakbeat supremos Stanton Warriors. He was asked to help run their Punks imprint, and made resident at their Stanton Sessions nights at Fabric. Having also impressed the Fabric staff with his subtle warm-up selections, he was asked back and has since played the club eight times in the last year, alongside the likes of Justice, Booka Shade, Plump DJs, DJ Yoda and Ame, capping 2006 by playing their New Years Eve party.
At the same time, Sick Rick also began to forge a strong studio partnership with Marine Parade’s Alex Metric, and the two collaborated on the massive ‘Space Hopper’, which picked up plays from all the big breaks DJs and was signed to Stanton Warriors’ Beats label. The duo were also responsible for some huge ‘under-the-counter’ edits, with their rework of Booka Shade’s classic ‘Mandarine Girl’ finding it’s way onto the 30th Fabriclive compilation.
Sick Rick was named as ‘One To Watch in 2007’ by IDJ magazine. He added weight to the title by promptly licensing fresh track ‘Spread’ to General Midi’s Y4K compilation (under his and Alex Metric’s new What What What alter-ego), and completing a huge remix of Stanton Warriors’ ‘Seeker’ track. With regular slots at Fabric, another New Years Eve booking alongside the likes of Sinden, Skream and Audion, and gigs abroad in Budapest and Ibiza, 2007 has been a seriously unwell year for Sick Rick.

Not only was his last mix out of this world, it was also the most downloaded mix we have ever hosted. There is a little story behind the visit of Tom Real last March. We all went out for dinner beforehand which was wicked & managed to get Tom down to the club on time, everything was going really smoothly and then it was Tom’s turn to take to the CDJs. 3 tunes in and he had the dancefloor rammed, everyone was loving it and it was one of the best sets we had heard! 1 hour in and we noticed he has having difficulties, then the music stopped and the crowd looked noticeably deflated. The intense heat had cooked one of the cd players, rendering it unusable! We put it in the cold cellar, but it didn’t make any difference. Tom had to cut his set short and we vowed to get him back again!

We champion the underground and shy away from evil things like booking agents & hard house.

General Tom Real Banter
On the DJ / Production front 2006 was a great year for me… Beginning the year by DJ’ing to 1000+ at a beach party in Brazil then smashing The Glade whilst being recorded on the legendary Annie Nightingale to feature as part of Radio 1’s coverage of the event. Delivering my first ‘solo’ remix for Control Breaks, producing a killer single for Functional (which featured on Tom Middleton’s DJ cover mount mix CD in October) three highly acclaimed remixes (one for West Records & two for Passenger) alongside production partner The Rogue Element as well as guesting on Jay Cunning’s national Kiss FM show
One month in and 2007 is already looking ‘gggrrreeeaaat’ (to quote Tony the Tiger:). Me and Rogue drop our first release of the year ‘Feel My…’ (single of the month in I-DJ & DJ Magazines & NO.19 in DJ Hype Chart) I have also completed two singles to be included exclusively on a new mix album, one with The Rogue and the other with Aquasky. Me and the Rogue are also set to remix Will ‘Propellerheads’ White for Functional Records 50th whilst 2007 will see Tom release his debut solo single, a two tracker that will cement Tom’s reputation as a top level producer!
On the DJ front I’m relighting my 9 year residency on the UK’s longest running monthly breaks n beats club night ‘Beatz & Bobz’ who’s 10th Anniversary worldwide tour which runs throughout 2007. There’s a main room set at The End for Chew The Fat in March alongside sets a C64 and Turnmills already in the bag whilst there’s tours planned for Australia and Brazil before the year is out.
